Uploading Files into a Case

Before uploading files to a case, you need to have those files accessible on your hard drive and ready to upload. This may involve exporting images from your PACS, taking a screen capture, or emailing the images to yourself. Images can be in any common format, such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, PSD, TIFF, Bitmap, or DICOM. Please see Preparing to Create a Case for more information.

Click on the "File Upload" tab:

If you are using the Classic Editor, if you are creating a new case, submit the case then click the link "Add Images to this Case". Or if you are editing an existing case, launch the case editor and then click "Add Images".

Specifying Individual Files to Upload

To specify the location of an image to upload, click the first Browse... button under the Source column, which will launch a Choose file popup:

This popup window may look slightly different from the one displayed above, depending on your operating system. You will see either thumbnails or icons representing the files in a folder on your hard drive. To look in a different folder, click the folder name (e.g. "Sample Images" in the example above), and navigate to the desired folder from the drop-down tree menu:

Once you have located the desired file to upload, double-click on the file icon or thumbnail, which will select that file and close the popup window, returning you to the Add Images form.

You may optionally enter a caption for the image. The caption may simply identify the image parameters (e.g. "Axial Pre-Contrast T1"), or you it can include a paragraph describing the findings in the image. The caption will not appear when the user is viewing the case as an unknown during Training Mode, so it is safe to include findings in the caption. You do not need to enter a figure number, as those will be automatically generated.

If you want to control when the image is displayed (the default is Always), specify the criteria using the drop-down menu under "When to Display". An explanation of the different stages is available in the section Managing Case Images.

Repeat these steps for each image that you want to upload, then press "UPLOAD". Only click UPLOAD once. It may take several minutes for the images to upload, depending on the size of the images and the speed of your network connection.

In the Enhanced Editor, when you click Upload you are switched to the Case Images tab, and the new images are displayed as soon as they are uploaded.

In the Classic Editor, when you click Upload the form page refreshes with a view of the case containing the new images.

Uploading Entire Folders at Once

If your computer is able to run Java applets, you can also upload an entire folder of images by using the Multi-Image Java Applet. Click the link shown below:

After you click the link, it may take up to 30 seconds for the applet to download and run.

If a security window pops up asking if you want to trust the applet, click "Yes":

The applet will load, showing you a file container box, which is empty until you select some files to upload. Click the "Add Files" button:

The file chooser will pop up, prompting you to select files on your computer's hard drive or any networked computers. To open a folder and see its contents, double-click on a folder to see the folder's contents.

To navigate up through the folder hierarchy, or to access other hard drives or networked computers, you can click the down arrow that appears to the right of the "Look In: " prompt.

If you want to upload the entire contents of a folder, navigate to the parent folder containing your target folder, then single-click on the target folder (don't open it by double-clicking) and then press "Add files". For example, here we are telling the system to upload all the files in the "screen shots" folder:

If you prefer to add some but not all of the contents of a folder, open the folder and then hold down the Ctrl key while you click each of the target files to be uploaded.

Once you click the "Add files" button, you are returned to the file container box, which now shows the files you have selected for uploading. Under the "Upload Files" button, you can see the total number of files that will be uploaded and the total number of bytes that will be uploaded:

You can add more files to the list by pressing "Add Files" again. You can remove files from the list by clicking on them and pressing "Remove Files". When you are ready to start the upload, press "Upload Files". You will see a progress report as the files are being uploaded: As the files are being uploaded, you will see a progress report showing the percent remaining for each file and how long the upload will take:

After all the files have been uploaded, you will be switched to the Case Images tab (or shown a form containing the case if you are using the Classic Editor). If you uploaded many images, it may take some time for them all to be displayed.

See the section Managing Case Images for instructions on how to add captions, reorder the images, and control when they are displayed.
