What is MyPACS ?
MyPACS is a web-based service that easily allows physicians, teachers, and researchers to create their own online teaching files repositories from any web browser.
Why was MyPACS created? Teaching files were originally stored as plain film with paper notes, but as Healthcare technology has become more computerized teaching files are being authored in digitized forms. With the advent of the Web online teaching files have become an important source of educational and reference material for the healthcare community. Authoring an HTML-based teaching file can be a tedious process and most often requires a significant investment in software development. In addition, healthcare facilities have complex workflow procedures and teaching file authors typically need to submit a case to a third party for approval. MyPACS was developed to simplify the teaching file environment by creating a user-friendly, web-based tool to empower healthcare personnel to author and maintain their own database-driven file repository. Each person can access their files from any computer connected to the Web, regardless of platform and requiring no software other than a standard Web browser
How is the service funded? MyPacs is being funded by sales of the Horizon Study Share Version as well as an NIH SBIR Grant.
What happens to cases if MyPACS goes out of business? It is possible to get a local copy of your cases in HTML format. You can also export cases from MyPACS in MIRC format.
Who is currently using MyPACS? There are currently clinicians from 45 countries logged into MyPACS authoring teaching files.
How do I get images into the system? The image upload form provides a folder navigation interface that allows a file to be selected from the local hard drive and uploaded over the internet to the MyPACS server. The order of images presented can be easily changed and the user does not have to be involved in changing image formats or image sizes. MyPACS converts images into JPEG format, but an image can always be retrieved in its original format. MyPACS converts each image into three standard image sizes for a uniform look.
How do I create a new case? The system will prompt you for descriptive information about the case, including annotations such as patient demographics, image modalities, anatomical structures, and pathological findings. The interface includes a structured reporting tool that guides the user in choosing standardized vocabulary terms through drop-down menus and checkboxes. Each case entry that is submitted automatically goes to a database from which it can be retrieved through the search interface.
