MIRC is an XML standard and a set of software tools for encoding and transmitting teaching files and other image-based documents. MIRC was developed by RSNA as a key technology in a long-term effort to make it easier for radiologists to share structured text and images across institutions. Horizon Study Share is compliant with the RSNA MIRC standard. All public cases in MyPACS.net are indexed by the RSNA MIRC query service. Cases created in Horizon Study Share can be easily exported as MIRC documents and transferred to third party MIRC-compatible systems. Additionally, MIRC documents can be published to Horizon Study Share from third-party MIRC authoring tools such as RadPix or RadXTreme. If your institution uses Horizon Study Share behind the firewall, you can publish anonymized cases to MyPACS.net using the MIRC format. NEW! MIRC2PPT: Free Software for Converting MIRC Documents to PowerPoint The Horizon Study Share team is happy to bring you MIRC2PPT, free software that allows you to convert MIRC teaching files to PowerPoint presentations. Download MIRC2PPT here. Exporting Horizon Study Share Cases to MIRC Format To export your Horizon Study Share cases in MIRC format, simply click "Export" in the case title bar, and choose "MIRC" as the format. You will be given a link to a zip file that contains the MIRC XML and the case images. You can download the zip file and save it to disk, and you can publish it to any MIRC-compliant system that accepts MIRC zip files. Note: you can only export your own cases, and you must be logged in to access this feature. For detailed instructions, see Horizon Study Share User Guide: Exporting Cases to MIRC Format.
Importing MIRC Documents into Horizon Study Share If you have a MIRC document and some images, wrap them in a zip file (using a utility such as WinZip) and then upload them to Horizon Study Share using the "Import" link that appears on the Case Manager:
Horizon Study Share and the MIRC standard We were invited to contribute to the early design of MIRC, based on our experience developing the Teaching File Modeling Language (TFML) which predated the MIRC XML Schema. In 2003, we met with the MIRC committee at the RSNA headquarters to participate in discussions on shaping the emerging standard. Each year at the RSNA Annual Meeting, we present our experiences with MIRC at the InfoRAD MIRC arena. We offer free tools to the MIRC community, and offer professional support to institutions seeking to leverage MIRC technology.
