Patient: 36 year old male
History: Posterior ankle pain.

Findings:

Calcaneal stress fracture.
Thickening and irregularity of spring ligament.

Diagnosis:

Calcaneal stress fracture.
Partial tear of spring ligament.

Discussion: Not uncommon in military recruits. Can accompany RA, neurologic disorders, and other diseases. Failure is related to the antagonistic action of the Achilles and plantar tendons and is accentuated when osteoporosis or spastic muscular tension is present.
