never visited HAMARTOMA OF THE TUBER CINEREUM

Patient: 18 year old male

Fig. 1: Sagittal MR. The tuber cinereum, lying in front of the mammilary bodies and behind the pituitary stalk, is enlarged.

Fig. 2: Coronal MR. The enlarged tuber cinereum is close to the floor of the third ventricle.

Fig. 3: Post-contrast. Except for a small area of high signal, the hamartoma does not enhance.

Fig. 4: Post-contrast. The hamartoma's signal is the same as grey matter.
Discussion: THESE HAMARTOMAS MAY PRESENT AS 1. PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY, 2. PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE HAMARTOMA'S MASS-EFFECT UPON ADJACENT STRUCTURES, AND 3. GELASTIC (LAUGHING) SEIZURES.
