never visited ACUTE OSTEOMYELITIS OF SECOND AND THIRD METATARSALS IN A DIABETIC

History: Diabetic with foot swelling and ulcer over third metatarsal head. A comparison film from about 6 months prior is included for comparison.

Diagnosis: Diabetic osteomyelitis
Discussion: Note the extensive vascular calcification as well as the destruction of the second and particularly the third distal metatarsals. There is a large ulcer over the third metatarsal head. Old fracture of the fourth metatarsal, amputations from previous bouts of osteomyelitis and an acute fracture of the second proximal phalynx (6/00) also are apparent.
