Never visited 061107 NONOSSIFYING FIBROMA
Contributed by: pedrad CSH, Radiologist, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Taiwan.
Patient: 9 year old male
History: Trauma, incidental finding
Images:[small]larger

Fig. 2: X-ray

Fig. 3: X-ray
Findings:

1. A 3.0cm osteolytic lesion with well-defined sclerotic margin

over medial aspect of right distal tibial cortex, in favor of

   nonossifying fibroma.

2. Another smaller one (2.6cm) in lateral-posterior cortex of

right distal femur with mild radiolucent, suggesting

   shrinking nonossifying fibroma.

3. Mild soft tissue swelling with joint effusion around right

   ankle, compatible with trauma history.

Diagnosis: nonossifying fibroma
Comments:

1. The terms nonossifying fibroma and fibrous cortical defect often

are used interchangeably. (The former designation is more

appropriately applied to a larger lesion)

2. Nonossifying fibromas are benign processes. Imaging methods

other than conventional radiography generally are not required

owing to the specificity of the radiographic abnormalities.

   Surgery is not necessary.
